I believe that sbst will be more interested in this than any of you but the latest news I have from Canada is that

"Pork packers lost money all year right up until late Sept. and then made some big bucks starting in Oct. with extremely low hog prices . That of course is hastening additional liquidation. So I think we can count on higher beef and pork prices starting sometime in the spring and perhaps even world meat shortages as the grain and dollar situation work their way into meat ."

"Australia's drought seems to have broken. That of course means more grass and with grass ranchers will hold back cattle to gain weight which will drive prices higher. The U.S. dollar which seems to be having trouble finding bottom is affecting everything in agriculture and food world wide. It will certainly put the brakes on expansion in Brazil and Australia as it simply means the farmers in these countries will have to take lower returns to compete and many can not afford to do that."

"Grain prices are incredibly high and that has prompted wall to wall production virtually everywhere. However the pipeline is for the most part empty and the key issue to watch for 2008 will be weather. If we have a good crop in all major production regions the desperate shortage will ease however if one or more of the major regions falters we will have world wide shortages of major grains going into 2009."

"We should have learned in 2007 that we can not use corn for ethanol as it risks the food supply but unfortunately that less seems to be falling on deaf ears. However we also learned in Oct. that if you use nitrogen fertilizer to grow corn or rapeseed for ethanol or bio-diesel than you are warming the atmosphere not cooling it as the fertilizer produces nitrous oxide at twice the rate thought. N2O is a much more destructive Green House Gas than CO2 so the entire bio fuel argument is moot if one needs fertilizer to grow the bio fuel. The source for this is a paper written by the Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry Paul Crutzen."

My soybeans have already gone up another US$35/MT based on the CBOT price nia. I have not cost in transportation and freight and anything which is going up even further and this is a new 34 year high wor Laughing
